According to the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) 2023 survey of Indian politicians and their profiles including their assets, criminal background, finances and liabilities and education details, with the exception of West Bengal’s Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who holds only Rs 15 lacs of assets, all the Chief Ministers of 29 states out of the 30 of them surveyed 97% are millionaires with assets at an average of Rs 33.96 crore. The report has also revealed that 13 CMs are closely attached to serious criminal cases including atrocities such as kidnapping, murder attempts, murder and criminal intimidation. It constitutes 43 per cent of all the chief ministers. Most of them are graduate degree holders, nevertheless. But there is only one woman chief minister in the country, i.e., Mamata Banerjee.
Of all the chief ministers the report reveals that YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, the CM of Andhra Pradesh is the richest with assets worth about Rs 510 crore with liabilities of only around Rs 1 crore.. He represents the ‘Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party’. He is followed by Prema Khandu (Arunachal Pradesh, Rs 163 crore), Navin Patnaik (Odisha, Rs 63 crore), Neiphiu Rio (Nagaland, Rs. 46 crore) and N Rangaswamy (Puducherry, Rs 38 crore).
