India won ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup final by defeating England by four-wickets to win the at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua on February 5, 2021. It was also a record-extending fifth U-19 title for India.
India chased down a target of 190 runs in 47.4 overs, reaching 195 for six. Nishant Sindhu played an unbeaten match-winning knock of 50 runs off 54 balls to help India edge past their opponents. Shaik Rasheed also played a crucial knock, smashing 50 runs off 84 balls for India.
From the England’s side Joshua Boyden, James Sales and Thomas Aspinwall took two wickets each for England’s bowling department. Earlier, England were bowled out for 189 in 44.5 overs and had a major batting collapse. James Rew smashed a crucial 95-run knock-off 116 balls to give his side a fighting chance and Sales remained unbeaten after registering 34 runs off 65 balls.
Individual half-centuries by batter Nishant Sindhu (50*) vice-captain Shaik Rasheed (50) turned out to be crucial as India sealed the chase in the 48th over on the back of wicket-keeper Dinesh Bana (12*) hitting consecutive sixes off James Sales. Sindhu, 17, not only scored a maiden YODI half-century but scored it at a strike rate of 92.59 including five fours and a six. Having lost captain Yash Dhull (17) in the 29th over, India were in a spot of bother. However, it was a game-changing 67-run partnership for the fifth wicket between Sindhu and Raj Bawa (35) which turned the tables for them.
Raj Bawa was in brilliant form for India and registered a five-wicket haul. Ravi Kumar bagged four dismissals and Kaushal Tambe also took a wicket. Bawa, who bowled a record spell was awarded man of the match.
